The book 'Ali Finds Her Courage' with kangaroos on the cover."

Ali Finds Her Courage

A young kangaroo growing up in the beautiful Australian outback, Ali finds herself outgrowing the safety and comfort of her mum’s pouch. Growing up is challenging no matter who you are. But when disaster strikes, Ali realises there might be someone else who needs her mum’s help more than she does. Will Ali find the courage to help a friend in need?

Inspired by the wildfires that Australia suffered in what is now being called the Black Summer in 2019/2020, this book approaches the important topic of climate change in a child friendly manner.

Why you should buy this book:

1.

In 2022, there were 421 recorded natural disasters worldwide. Compared to 357 just ten years previous. As our world changes and adapts to a harsher climate and the results of human overpopulation – our animals are suffering the consequences.

2.

During the Black Summer fires, it’s estimated that 5.5 million hectares and 3 billion animals were affected – some species are believed to have even been driven to extinction. And yet there are very few books that discuss these topics in an appropriate way for our youngest readers.

3.

As a teacher, I have created this book to be the perfect balance between educating and entertaining in an age-appropriate way. It’s our responsibility to teach the next generation values that will make the world a better place for all the creatures in it.

4.

From Covid to wars to natural disasters, kids are being affected by our changing planet and need books to help guide them on how to get through these experiences compassionately.

5.

Sharing is something all children struggle to understand. In this book, they will see an example from a relatable character and gain a better understanding of how to let go.

6.

Working with kids for 15+ years, I have read thousands of books to children of all ages. Over this time, I have developed a sense of what they like and what they don’t. With short attention spans, writing a children’s book becomes a delicate balance between providing educational information in an entertaining way that keeps them engaged all while creating a story that many different kids can relate to. When we can relate to something, we automatically place it into our long-term memory making the lesson stick for life.

"This was a fantastic read with my 5 year old daughter. We had some great conversations from it about growing out of things as you get older. She loved searching the pages and googling all the different Australian animals that we found throughout the story. Highly recommend for parents and teachers alike! It's a great conversation starter about important topics."

"We've all been confronted with an overwhelming amount of change recently. In this story, a young kangaroo confronts her own set of overwhelming changes, balances her fears against compassion for others in her community, and finds she has more resilience than she realizes. A lovely story that helps even us grownups realize we can do the same."

"This sweet story took me to the Outback in Australia. Ali the kangaroo learned about herself and how to help others. My grandkids loved it and the illustrations are beautiful. It's a lesson I definitely wanted my grandkids to learn about."

“We recently read this story about a sincerely sweet kangaroo named Ali, and it’s been stuck in my head ever since! The message of this book made me slightly emotional (not going to lie), and I know my daughter won’t understand it yet but I’m saving this for when she’s older. I love seeing Alderson write about her passions, teaching little readers about the forest in Australia, and how animals have to find courage in order to survive too. Highly recommend grabbing this book if you have 5-6 year olds at home! Or if you’re like me, and want to start the collection a little early. Hop to it!”

"My children and I love Ali Finds Her Courage. This thoughtful and well written book is perfect for elementary aged children. The beautifully realistic bush images combined with a strong story of a little Kangaroo finding the courage to risk her safety to help a little Koala is very touching. The author captured the concept of a forest fire without making it scary for children. My kids (ages 4 and 7) want to read it again and again! I highly recommend this book to wildlife lovers, parents, and teachers. The lessons are wholesome and easily relatable for kids. The author even has a free teacher/parent reading guide available on her social media."
